The independent film world is knee deep in festival season madness with Tribeca kicking off this week and Cannes right around the corner. But before the industry heads east, we wanted to share our 5 highlights from this years Tribeca Film Festival program.
Do we feel bad starting this list with something other than a film? Nope. The festival cut the feature film section by 20% this year so it’s only natural we are intrigued by the other programs. Buzzing from the series finale of GIRLS, best friends and collaborators Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham will sit down together to discuss the show, the industry and their careers. This can’t miss convo takes place at the Tribeca Festival Hub on April 25th and is moderated by fellow feminist, America Ferrera.
2. LITERALLY, RIGHT BEFORE AARON
If the final sentence of Ryan Eggold’s directorial film’s synopsis doesn’t hit home, bless your heart: “…this film will speak to those among us who have had their hearts broken by the ones they know they’ll love forever.” Bring your own tissue.
3. I AM HEATH LEDGER
This trailer speaks volumes. See it here before it debuts in theatres and then on Spike TV.
4. DON’T MESS WITH JULIE WHITFIELD
Shorts! Shorts! Shorts! When we read that new distribution company NEON is now acquiring and releasing short film content, we got extra excited for the potential of seeing DON’T MESS WITH JULIE WHITFIELD ahead of any movie, literally. Our love for Casey Wilson is v. strong. We’re talking “Bitch Sesh” #notagging strong.
5. “The Sinner”
Before the series premiere on USA Network, “The Sinner” cast, including Jessica Biel, Bill Pullman, and Christopher Abbot are set to swing by the festival for a conversation surrounding their new show about a young mother who is overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage and commits a startling act of violence.
